Although blind and severely learning-impaired, Derek has a unique musical mind that both moves and astonishes all those who hear him play. Derek can play many pieces of music after hearing them just once – in any key – and in a wide range of styles. Alongside Derek’s famous spur-of-the-moment improvisations, based on audience requests, these concerts will include works by many famous composers by an extraordinary pianist, who can neither see nor read music.

Derek has performed across the world as a soloist pianist and with renowned musicians such as the BBC TV personality Jools Holland. He has performed at many top venues including Ronnie Scott’s and in Beverley Hills, Hollywood. Last year he played for two hours in front of an invited audience and raised £100,000 for charity. His talents have been the subject of several international TV documentaries including Channel Five’s Extraordinary People series where he was the subject of The Musical Genius.
