Haslemere Musical Society’s May concert is a fitting mix for heralding the forthcoming Haslemere Festival. The first half of the programme is Puccini’s beautiful Messa di Gloria for Orchestra and Chorus. This work was written early in Puccini’s career but shows mastery of orchestration and preludes the wonderful operas which followed. The second half of the concert will be full of exciting pieces – Verdi’s Overture and Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves from Nabucco. Rossini’s Ballet Music for William Tell and the Last Night of the Proms favourites: Elgar Pomp and Circumstance No 1, Wood Sea Songs and Parry Jerusalem.
