The HMS December concert is a fascinating prelude to the Festive Season.  Charpentier’s Messe de Minuit is jaunty and uplifting with excellent soloists to enhance the HMS chorus.   As with the Charpentier, Bizet’s L’Arlésienne Suite No 2 will make you want to dance as you hear the various tunes.  Gabriel Fauré wrote the Cantique de Jean Racine for a competition when he was only 19 and it shows many resemblances to his later Requiem.  Clive Osgood also composed for a competition and last year his Alleluia was selected for the final of the BBC Carol Competition.  Two rousing pieces – Vaughan Williams’ ‘O Clap Your Hands’ and Prokofiev’s Troika(Lieutenant Kije) – complete a programme designed to delight.

James Ross conducts.
