A charming, spirited, speculative account of the night spent by Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret during the VE Day celebrations. Following the end of World War II, while Britain was celebrating VE Day on 8 May 1945, two members of the Royal Family were permitted to leave Buckingham Palace and enjoy a night on the town – properly chaperoned of course! They were Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret. Now, a charming new historical drama from director Julian Jarrold imagines what the two Royals might possibly have got up to during their night spent mingling with ‘ordinary’ folk. Sarah Gadon plays Elizabeth and Bel Powley plays Margaret in this humorous yet thoughtful depiction of a country on the cusp of great change. It’s also the story of two sisters who in the course of one night discover more about life than they ever could have imagined.
