Dakota Fanning stars in Emma Thompson’s lavish period drama based on a scandalous true-life love triangle. Nineteenth century art critic John Ruskin (Greg Wise) falls for beautiful 19-year-old Euphemia ‘Effie’ Gray (Dakota Fanning). After they are married, the couple depart for Venice. But the union is not a happy one, and Effie is left to her own devices while her husband conducts his studies. Things change when they visit Ruskin’s Scottish homeland with his protégé, the Pre-Raphaelite painter John Everett Millais (Tom Sturridge). Effie and Millais fall in love, scandalising Victorian society.
