Set in San Fernando Valley in 1973, Gary Valentine (Cooper Hoffman), an aspiring actor, meets Alana Kane (Alana Haim), whom he develops feelings for and sees himself marrying her one day. When Gary meets Jon Peters (Bradley Cooper), a hairdresser and film producer, he starts to gain more fame and the attention of other high profile Hollywood figures.

When Alana sees Gary hanging out with another girl, she tries to make him jealous by hanging out with an elderly man. In this coming-of-age story about navigating one’s first love, Gary and Alana find themselves chasing their dreams and each other around Hollywood, falling in love as they grow up together and find out if what they have going on is something special.
