Michelle Williams stars in a heart-wrenching tale of forbidden love during WWII. Lucille Angellier (Michelle Williams) lives in a small village in occupied France. Her husband has been captured by the Nazis and she finds herself firmly under the thumb of her fearsome mother-in-law (Kristin Scott Thomas). Before long, the town is overrun by refugees fleeing from Paris. A regiment of German soldiers is also billeted with the villagers. Despite her better judgment, Lucille finds herself drawn to the officer who moves into her home – urbane, cultured and handsome Bruno (Matthias Schoenaerts). But she could pay a very heavy price for their romance.
