Talk: Petworth – a Ducal Mansion in Sussex with Ian Yonge

Ian Yonge, a retired solicitor, looks at the National Trust property of Petworth House and its amazing art collection, the greatest of all National Trust properties.  Petworth and its 700-acre deer park is also a fascinating example of the changes in English domestic architecture and landscape over 900 years. We will do this through the lives of the extraordinary owners over time, from the 8th Earl Northumberland, compelled by the State to live at Petworth, to the licentious 3rd Earl Egremont who created Constable’s ‘House of Art’, we know today.
