This event is at the Haslemere Museum

Ravenna is one of the most fascinating of Italian cities, but has never quite caught the imagination of British tourists in the way that Florence and Rome have… Nevertheless, during part of the fifth century it was the capital of the Western Roman Empire and, as a result, great building works were undertaken, including the Imperial Palace and what is now called the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia. In the latter, there are mosaics of the most exquisite beauty; to enter the mausoleum is to walk into a jewel box, glistening with images of saints, heavenly stars, and the Good Shepherd. The talk will be given by Rt Revd Christopher Herbert, retired Bishop of St Albans and NADFAS Lecturer, who developed his love of the area as a result of the twinning links he developed with the local Roman Catholic Dioceses.
