The Haslemere Musical Society offers a varied mix of music for orchestra and chorus in its March 5th programme.

The Haslemere Musical Society’s Spring concert has two works which are aimed to delight the audience. Ma Vlast (meaning ‘my homeland’) is a set of symphonic poems in which the Czech composer Bedṙich Smetana combined the symphonic poem form pioneered by Franz Liszt with the ideals of nationalistic music current in the late nineteenth century. Each poem depicts some aspect of the countryside, history or legends of Bohemia. The orchestra will perform Ŝárka from the set of poems.
Both orchestra and chorus will perform the romantic and moving Stabat Mater by Antonin Dvoṙák. It has been said that people have been blown away by this not often performed gem. There will be a quartet of excellent soloists and an opportunity for the Society’s lead violinist Tom Horn.
The concert will be conducted by James Ross and the chorus will be trained by Thomas Lydon.
