The programme for the Haslemere Musical Society’s December concert has works by Tchaikovsky, Rutter and Finzi. Tchaikovsky said of his first symphony Winter Daydreams ‘it has more substance and is better than any of my other more mature works’. With its writing entwined with Russian life and folk music it remains a favourite with audiences today. The chorus joins the orchestra for John Rutter’s Gloria which has freshness, drama and sheer beauty and Gerald Finzi’s In Terra Pax, an evocative setting of Robert Bridge’s poem Noel: Christmas Eve 1913 and words from St Luke II, 8 -14. The evening will end with Christmas music and some audience participation.

Founded in 1923, the Haslemere Musical Society consists of a Symphony Orchestra and Chorus and has been a major contributor to the musical life of South West Surrey.

The Society has built a reputation for its high musical standards and for producing exciting and enjoyable concerts
