Last month, we decided to include a classic film in our programming. The film was the award winning “Cinema Paradiso” which attracted a strong audience and was extremely well received.
This month, we have opted for one of the best comedies ever made, “Some Like It Hot” starring Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon and Joe E. Brown. It’s a film which should cheer everyone up in these difficult times. The Director, Billy Wilder, was nominated for an Oscar.
The story starts in February 1929 when unemployed musicians Jo and Jerry go on the run after witnessing the St Valentine’s Day Massacre. Pursued by gangsters, the duo are forced to disguise themselves as women and join the Sweet Sue’s all-girl band on the next train for Florida. Jo is attracted to Sugar Kane, the band’s singer, while Jerry finds himself pursued enthusiastically by millionaire Osgood E. Fielding.
